How It Helps Science

"Through our registration database, we have a launching pad for donors to learn more about their options, for their families and loved ones to understand their decision and for the community to learn about the impact that the decision has made. The decision to donate your body to science is a gift that helps other people, forever."

Why Body Donation?

Persons who want to donate their bodies will either learn that they have been donated to an educational or research cause. Bodies that are used for education are used by higher education facilities, to teach first responders to emergency scenes and other educational organizations that need to teach students to handle bodies.

Whole body donation can be an option that suits some families. Donating a body to a university can benefit society by helping advance medical research and education. Donating to a research facility helps to advance the causes of the medical industry and its auxiliary industries.

Because LifeDonation.org is a non-profit organization, we can help people understand how the body donation process works and understand the different options a person has. It is important to understand the difference between the institutions, facilities and the difference between the private and public sectors. LifeDonation.org also teaches and educates families about the regulations surrounding whole body donation and how to properly communicate those issues to their loved ones.

Here is a simple way to understand the difference between use of the body foreducationandresearchbecause they can be vastly different from one another:

Education- Use of the body for education generally implies the body is used in a higher education program as a cadaver in the classroom. Students are sometimes assigned bodies that they use for up to two years before the remains are returned to the loved one.

Research- Use of the body for research generally implies the body parts are used by private industry, research companies or higher education programs. Depending on the type of program, the various body parts may or may not be returned.

In both cases, LifeDonation.org is dedicated to helping the donors and their loved ones understand how the gift helps society and how the process will occur in a case by case basis.
